Colorado Man Found Guilty Of Killing His Girlfriend’s 3-Year-Old Son

A Colorado man was convicted of killing his girlfriend’s 3-year-old son over four years ago.

A jury deliberated for five hours on March 3 before finding John Affourtit, 37, guilty of first-degree murder of a victim under 12, child abuse causing death, and reckless endangerment, KCNC-TV reported.

According to the station, on Sept. 25, 2018, police and paramedics responded to the Denver home Affourtit shared with his girlfriend and the little boy.

The child, who was unresponsive and not breathing, appeared to be abused and died from his injuries.

An autopsy showed the victim's cause of death was blunt-force trauma, and Affourtit was arrested.

He is scheduled to be sentenced on April 6.
