‘He didn't deserve this at all’: Florida grandfather, 78, carjacked, killed while picking up prescription
Three assailants shot and carjacked an elderly Florida man who was picking up a prescription at his neighborhood pharmacy, authorities said.
According to the Orange County Sheriff's Office, on Jan. 30 around 3:30 p.m., three assailants shot Uken Cummings in a CVS parking lot in Pine Hills, Florida, and then stole his vehicle.
The carjacking victim, a father of four and grandfather of 10, was rushed to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
“He didn't deserve this at all,” Cummings' son, who did not wish to be identified, told Orlando television station WESH of the retired senior citizen.
“We're people who don't bother anybody, I don't understand how any of this happened,” the son said. “It's bad, man, and I know for people, the elderly like that, it makes them not want to come out at all, and that's no way to live. It's senseless.”
"My dad was a fun person. He loved to cook, to entertain, and make people smile. He was a caring dad and also a grandfather," the victim’s daughter, who also declined to be identified, told WOFL, noting she and her siblings had just lost their mother seven months ago.
“All I want to say is an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. You will not rest,” the daughter said of whoever is responsible for fatally shooting Cummings.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Crimeline at (800) 423-TIPS.
