Convicted Killer ‘Planned and Brutally Carried Out’ Hatchet Attack on Victim in Alaska Club
A man in Alaska who murdered his victim with a hatchet in a club was sentenced to prison.
Brett Gilbert, 55, was accused of brutally attacking Mark Mitchell inside Club Machu in Fairbanks on July 30, 2017, according to Alaska’s News Source.
Gilbert was found guilty of first-degree murder last winter and was sentenced on June 5 to serve 75 years behind bars.
According to prosecutors, security video shows Gilbert repeatedly striking Mitchell with the hatchet, including when Mitchell fell to the floor.

After a club employee attempted to grab and stop Gilbert from attacking Mitchell, the defendant fled the scene.
At the sentencing hearing, the judge noted the murder was “planned and brutally carried out” and Gilbert took the victim’s life “without reason.”
