A man is accused of killing his girlfriend and then returning to the scene hours later, according to reports.
Around 5:45 p.m. on Nov. 19, police in Maui, Hawaii, 911 dispatchers received a call from a man about a murder at his home.
Officers went to the home and found the lifeless body of Amie Kaholooa, 43, according to police. Authorities could not find a suspect.
Around 6 a.m. on Nov. 20, the man returned to the home and was arrested. The suspect was identified as 59-year-old Mariano Garces.
He was charged with second-degree murder and is being held in jail on $1 million bond.
Garces and Kaholooa were in a relationship, though police did not release a motive in the case.
According to the Maui News, Kaholooa had filed for a restraining order against the Garces early in the year. She claimed he choked and stepped on her, as well as punched in the face and hit her with a stick.
The victim even reported feeling that Garces would kill her one day.
The order was dismissed weeks after being filed when neither showed up for a court hearing, according to the report.
