Hawaii vacation turns deadly after fight at rental home, cops say

A fight at a vacation rental in Hawaii left a 30-year-old man and a former classmate facing manslaughter charges, police say.

Around 2 a.m. March 29, police responded to the rental after a call that said a man was unresponsive and not breathing.

Hawaii Fire Department personnel performed CPR on the victim, but were not able to resuscitate him, according to the Hawaii Police Department.

The victim was identified as Abhishek Gupta, 30, of Pittsburgh, according to Penn Live. Police say he was strangled.

Police say a preliminary investigation shows that an argument between Gupta and others escalated and turned physical.

The two other people at the rental were identified as Alexander Germany-Wald, 31, from Boston, and Benjamin Fleming, 37, of Pittsburgh, according to police.

Both men were initially arrested and charged with manslaughter. However, Germany-Wald was later released with no charges filed, according to Penn Live.

According to the Penn Live report, Fleming and Gupta were classmates at  Carnegie Mellon University business school. They graduated in 2020.
