Kansas Man Accused Of Intentionally Setting House Fire That Seriously Injured Two
A Kansas man faces attempted murder charges after he allegedly set fire to a home and seriously injured two occupants, authorities said.
Arturo Ramirez, 41, was taken into custody in Topeka on Feb. 1 in connection with the incident, KSNT reported.
In addition to first-degree attempted murder, Ramirez also faces a slew of charges that include aggravated arson, reckless endangerment, violating a protection order, and probation offenses, officials said.
According to reports, officers in Topeka responded to a home after receiving a call around 1:15 a.m. about a disturbance outside, according to KSNT.
Down the street from the disturbance, police said they found a two-story house ablaze and alerted the fire department.
Two adults, a male and female, at the burning home suffered serious fire-related injuries, and police took Ramirez into custody for an interview.
Investigators determined the fire was intentionally set and the incident was related to a domestic issue, WIBW reported.
Online Shawnee County Adult Detention Center records show Ramirez was arrested twice in 2021 for domestic battery and other charges. The resolution of those cases is unclear.
Ramirez is being held at the Shawnee County jail.
Officials have not released further details about the case.
