A Houston woman was charged after her young son was hit by a bullet when the intended target was a stray dog, police said.
Houston police investigators say that the child’s mother, Angela Mia Vargas, 24, fired a small-caliber pistol three times at a dog running loose on the street.
One of the bullets ricocheted and struck her 5-year-old child, according to police.
The child was transported to an area hospital in stable condition with what police believed were non-life-threatening wounds.
The owner of the dog was issued a citation for letting it run loose, police say. The unnamed dog was not injured.
Vargas was charged with deadly conduct — discharge of a firearm.
