Woman Working on Home Renovations Discovers 'Toes Sticking Out of the Ground' in Florida Backyard
An investigation is underway after human remains were found partially buried in the backyard of a home in Jacksonville, Florida, per reports.
People working on a home in the Magnolia Gardens neighborhood of northwest Jacksonville recently discovered what appeared to be human feet sticking out of the ground and reported the grisly find to authorities.
The house was undergoing renovations, and a woman who was helping the homeowner do yard work told News4Jax that she found "toes sticking out of the ground," and they appeared black, as if decomposed.
“They were all black and stuff. But I guess that was from decomposing,” the unidentified woman told the outlet. “I just hope that everything gets solved. My reaction to this is just craziness. I would never expect this, especially at a house that I am working at.”
The Jacksonville County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene and stayed with the remains overnight until they could be extricated on Thursday, according to First Coast News.
The sheriff's office has not publicly identified the potential victim's remains. The Duval County Medical Examiner's Office is conducting an autopsy.
