Husband Accused Of Running Over, Killing Wife At Salt Lake City Airport After Returning From Family Wedding

A Utah man is accused of killing his wife in a short-term parking garage at the Salt Lake City International Airport after they arrived back from a trip out of town, police said.

On April 4, WNYW reported, surveillance video allegedly shows Shawn Christopher Sturgeon, 38, run over Charlotte Sturgeon, 29, in their SUV, police said, according to KSL-TV.

Before the incident, police said Shawn Sturgeon can be seen in the video placing the couple’s child in a rear passenger seat and then getting into the driver’s side seat.

Charlotte Sturgeon was standing in an open passenger-side door as her husband then begins to back up, police said.

“The victim’s legs can be seen flailing about as he continues to reverse, being dragged, which causes her to fall to the ground under the vehicle,” police said, KSL-TV reported.

According to authorities, Shawn Sturgeon then put the car into drive and drove over his wife before coming to a stop after going about 10 feet.

He got out of the SUV and walked her to the vehicle and they drove to a payment booth for help, police said.

The victim was rushed to an area hospital, where she died from her injuries.

In court documents obtained by KSL-TV, police claimed the woman’s husband “appeared to be under the influence of alcohol as evidenced by the odor coming from his mouth and glassy bloodshot eyes.”

Christopher Sturgeon was booked into the into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on vehicular homicide and DUI charges.

An unnamed family member told KSL-TV the couple were attending a wedding in Texas before the fatal incident and said there were “no problems, no issues” between the two.
