A woman has been accused of killing her newborn and burying the boy in the backyard of her home.
Alvory C. Chavez Ramos, 23, suffocated her newborn son between Oct. 31 and Nov. 30, 2020, according to the Cook County sheriff’s office, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
Chavez Ramos had given birth in the bathtub of a home and then allegedly covered the baby’s mouth and nose when he began to cry to prevent relatives from discovering the baby, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
When the baby stopped moving, police say she wrapped him in a plastic bag and buried the baby’s body in the backyard of her family’s home in the 900 block of North Prater Avenue in unincorporated Leyden Township, Illinois, according to WGN 9.
The child’s remains were discovered in May and an autopsy determined the cause of death was asphyxia, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

DNA tests confirmed Chavez Ramos was the child’s mother and she was arrested on Oct. 23, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
She told police she had concealed her pregnancy from her family because “she did not want them to be angry with her,” according to the sheriff’s office, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
Chavez Ramos is being held on a $95,000 bond, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
