In late May, a man was found shot to death in Illinois. Now, weeks later, police say they arrested the suspected killer.
Around 12:30 p.m. on May 21, police in Peoria, Illinois, responded to a block for a shots fired complaint. Before police arrived, they were told a victim of a gunshot was in the area.
Officers found a man with a gunshot wound. The name of the victim has not been released.
Police tried to provide life-saving measures but were not successful and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators responded to the scene and collected evidence. They identified the suspect as 34-year-old Stephen Coaxum. Though, authorities did not reveal how they tied him to the killing or a possible motive in the case.
He was arrested last week and charged with first-degree murder and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon.
