Indiana man arrested for Christmas Eve murder, left victim to die on sidewalk, cops say

A man has been arrested after he allegedly shot and killed a man on Christmas Eve and left him to die on the sidewalk, police said.

Around 3:30 p.m. Dec. 24, officers with the Michigan City, Indiana, Police Department began to hear gunfire in the area of 10th Street and Wabash Street.

While on their way, 911 operators told the officers they had calls about a gunshot victim in the area of West 11th Street and Wabash Street, according to Michigan City police.

When authorities responded, they found a man lying on the sidewalk with an apparent gunshot wound.

The victim, identified as London Lamonte Long, 20, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Michigan City police.

Detectives spoke with witnesses, searched for video surveillance and collected evidence from the investigation.

On Jan. 7, officers arrested Mark Anthony Wright Jr., 24, in connection with Long’s homicide. Police did not say if Wright knew the victim or a motive for the alleged murder.

Wright has been charged with murder and carrying a handgun without a license.
