A man was recently convicted of murder after getting into a fight with his grandfather and throwing a wheelbarrow at him outside their home in Indiana, officials said.
On Sept. 5, 2021, Trent Kreegar, 28, was arrested in connection with the death of his 67-year-old grandfather, Robert Earl Huffman Jr., WTWO reported.
Huffman died after the two got into a fight outside the victim's Daleville home.
During the trial, Kreegar testified he had been staying with his grandfather and he was drinking vodka for about seven hours in a car parked outside the home when an angry Huffman pulled him from the car and the two got into a fight, the Star Press reported.
Kreegar struck Huffman multiple times, kicked him in the ribs and stomped on his head. Police said he hit him in the head with a cement cinder block and then picked up a steel wheelbarrow and threw it on top of him, breaking more than two dozen of the victim's ribs.
Deputy Prosecutor Doug Mawhorr said Kreegar “stomped on his head to finish him off,” the Star Press reported.
After the fight, Kreegar headed into the house and took a shower and waited several hours before calling 911.
The jury deliberated for more than five hours before finding the defendant guilty of murder and aggravated battery.

The guilty verdict was delivered on what would have been Huffman’s 69th birthday.
