An Indiana woman died after a weekend shooting and police say her boyfriend has been charged in connection to her murder.
On July 23, authorities said Macirra Williams, 22, was shot in an apartment. She was taken to Memorial Hospital for emergency surgery, but she died from her injuries.
Officials said when police arrived at the apartment, they found Williams with a gunshot wound to the neck.
Also in the apartment were her boyfriend, Demarice Williams, 24, the couple’s three children, Macirra’s younger sister and an acquaintance, police said.
Demarice spoke with investigators and told them he and Macirra were “play fighting” when she asked him to put the gun away from its spot on the bed, authorities said.
This is when Demarice says he stumbled with the gun and when grabbed it in mid-air, the gun went off and shot Macirra.
Investigators also spoke with two of the couple’s children and they said their parents had been arguing and then their father shot their mother, The South Bend Tribune reported.
Police also spoke with a neighbor, who said they heard arguments in the Williams apartment and it got louder before police arrived on the scene.
According to authorities, Macirra also told co-workers the same day she was shot that Demarice emptied out their bank account and she left work early to confront him.
Demarice was charged with murder and is being held without bond. He remains in custody at the St. Joseph County Jail.
