Woman shot dead inside a car near Indiana air reserve base, suspect arrested
A man is accused of shooting and killing a woman inside a car near an Indiana air reserve base, police said.
Indiana State Police announced the arrest of Jeremiah Smith, 18, in connection to the shooting.
Around 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 24, Indiana State Police, the Miami County Sheriff’s Department and the Maconaquah Police Department responded to a possible shooting inside a car in Peru, Indiana.
When officers arrived, they found Hanna Cox, 18, with a gunshot wound, according to state police.
Responders tried life-saving measures, but she died at the scene.
Investigators identified Smith as a suspect and his home was near the shooting scene, according to state police. Cox was visiting Smith and the evidence showed that he was in the car when she was shot.
Police have not said what led to the shooting.
Smith was charged with involuntary manslaughter, reckless homicide and pointing a firearm. He was booked in the Miami County jail.
