Woman thought she was 'gonna be dead' until nephew fatally shot the man beating her: cops

An Indiana woman was being beaten by her 28-year-old nephew and thought she was going to die until her younger nephew shot the suspect, police said.
Around 3 a.m. on Aug. 29, police said the woman’s 28-year-old nephew arrived at her home in Indianapolis and began beating her.
The woman spoke with FOX 59 and said, “My nephew was here and he was very upset because I wouldn’t let him come in and he beat me up and wouldn’t get off of me and my nephew came and shot at my other nephew.”
According to the woman, her older nephew struggled with mental illness since he was a child.
Police previously told the woman if they found this nephew on her property, he could be arrested for trespassing.

The aunt told FOX 59, “He was hospitalized for a couple days and then they just released him and he was good for a while but then he started back snapping the last two or three days.”
On the night of the fatal shooting, the woman said, “He threw me to the ground and stomped on my face and stomped my head and punched me in my face. Then my nephew just started shooting. Then my other nephew was still hitting me and so then he got up and ran and went down the street and fell.”
When the cops arrived, they separated the woman and her teenage nephew to get their stories, officials said.
At the same time, the wounded nephew was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to authorities.
Officials said the teenager was queastioned but has been released.
Authorities said any final charging decisions regarding the fatal shooting would be determined by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.
