A 2-Year-Old Girl in Iowa Died After She Was Critically Injured. Now, Her Caretaker Has Been Arrested, Officials Say.

A 2-year-old Iowa girl has died and police say the man who was in charge of her care when she was allegedly injured has been arrested.
Around 12:50 p.m. on Jan. 19, police and emergency services were dispatched to a residence in Centerville regarding a report of an injured child, according to the Iowa Department of Public Safety.
Once at the residence, authorities said they found 2-year-old Journey Marberry critically injured inside the home.
Journey was immediately transported to MercyOne Hospital in Centerville and subsequently airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City due to the severity of her injuries, officials said.
On Jan. 27, Journey died.
Around 12:30 p.m. the same day, Roger Gillespie, 48, was arrested by members of the Iowa State Patrol tactical team and charged with child endangerment causing death.

He was being held in the Appanoose County Jail.
According to investigators, Gillespie was the little girl’s caretaker at the time she suffered the injuries. However, no further information was released.
