Actor Isaiah Stokes, who appeared on screen in “Law & Order,” “Power” and “Boardwalk Empire,” is accused of murder and other crimes for the fatal shooting of a Queens man.
Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced Stokes was indicted by a grand jury and arraigned in a New York Supreme Court for killing Tyrone Jones. Jones died as he sat in a parked car in Jamaica, Queens on Feb. 7.
“The defendant is accused of unloading nearly eleven shots during this brazen afternoon shooting,” Katz said in a statement.
“Gun violence is all too prevalent in our neighborhoods. We will not allow it to become the norm.”
Authorities said video surveillance footage showed Stokes stepping out of a vehicle parked near the intersection of Linden Boulevard and 200th Street. He then approached the driver’s side window of a white Jeep Grand Cherokee parked in front of 200-08 Linden Boulevard.
Stokes allegedly fired eleven gunshots into the car, hitting Jones, 37, of Queens Village, who died of his injuries around 2:45 p.m, according to the district attorney's office.
The district attorney did not disclose whether Stokes knew the victim or what led to the alleged murder.
Stokes, 41, of 62nd Road, Jamaica, Queens, was arraigned on a three-count indictment charging him with second-degree murder and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
He is set to return to court on July 19. If convicted, Stokes faces up to life in prison.
