Jailhouse Call Exposes Strained Relationship Between Convicted Double Murderer Alex Murdaugh and Son Buster
July 12 2023, Published 11:32 a.m. ET
Following the imprisonment of convicted double murderer Alex Murdaugh, for the murder of his wife and son, a phone call between Alex and his son Buster Murdaugh has been released where Buster seems to be bragging to his father about his presence on the affluent Hilton Head Island, while Alex listens from behind bars, according to authorities.
As Front Page Detectives previously reported, a jury found Alex guilty of brutally murdering his wife Maggie, 52, and younger son Paul, 22, at the family’s estate in South Carolina on the night of June 7, 2021.
In April 2023, Alex was sentenced to consecutive life sentences for the gruesome murders.
Now FITSNews has obtained audio of a 42-second phone call between Alex and his surviving son on May 16.
In the call, Alex tells Buster that he “loves him” and is “proud of him” while also trying to get some information to his legal counsel.
Alex tells his son, “Hey buddy.
Buster responds, “Hey, I don’t have a whole lot of time. I just boarded a ferry to go back to Hilton Head Island from Daufuskie (Island)."
“Yeah I know, I – I been trying to call – I was supposed to call you while you were with Jim, um, about this meeting," Alex says. "But anyway. How about text him and let him know I'm trying to call him?”
“Mm-kay," Buster replies.

Alex then asks, “Did he talk to you about that – about the thing (line crackles) that I told him?”
Buster answers, “No, I can't really understand you either.”
“Alright, alright … I'm gone, um, I'm going to leave word with Jim and he'll be in touch with you," Alex tells his son and then adds that he loves him.
“Alright, love you, too," Buster says in return.

Alex then tells his son he was “proud" of him, and Buster responds with a quick "thanks” before the phone call is disconnected.
According to FITSNews, the “Jim” being referred to in the phone call is likely Jim Griffin, Alex’s lead defense attorney from the trial.
Alex is still awaiting trial on dozens of financial crimes charges that led to the loss of his job and his law license.
Meanwhile, Buster will be breaking his silence and speaking to Fox Nation in a new exclusive docuseries “The Fall of the House of Murdaugh” on September 12, The Daily Mail reported.
