A 16-year-old is accused of murdering his friend's mom, whose remains were found in a garage.
On April 21, police went to a home in Shawnee County, Kansas, after a 16-year-old called to say he found the body of his mom in the garage, according to the Shawnee County District Attorney's Office.
When officers arrived, they found the body of Hester H. Workman, 46, lying in the attached garage, according to the District Attorney's Office.
Workman was suffering from severe trauma to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Amadeus Courage Ballou-Meyer, 16, was identified and arrested for the crime. He was a friend of Workman’s son, according to prosecutors.
Authorities did not say whether the son’s friend who arrived at the scene was Ballou-Meyer, according to WIBW.
Prosecutors noted police spoke to neighbors and collected surveillance videos from nearby homes to identify the suspect.
Ballou-Meyer was charged with several crimes, including first-degree murder, aggravated burglary and interference with law enforcement, according to prosecutors.
The District Attorney's office has already started proceedings requesting that the Court authorize Kagay’s office to prosecute Ballou-Meyer as an adult.
