A dentist in Los Angeles allegedly sexually abused nine patients at his office and now faces criminal charges.
Emad Fathy Moawad, 50, faces nine counts of sexual battery by restraint, three counts of sexual penetration by use of force and one count of attempted sexual penetration by use of force, according to the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office.
According to the criminal complaint, the alleged assaults happened between 2013 and 2018 at the dentist’s office on Beverly Boulevard and Normandie Avenue.
The victims ranged in age from 27 to 73 years old, according to the district attorney's office.
The website for the practice where Moawad worked says he and Dr. Katerina Moawad have more than 20 years of combined dental experience.
“This case is especially concerning because its victims are low-income people and immigrants who are less likely to report crimes due to fear,” District Attorney George Gascón said in announcing the arrest. “We are asking other possible victims to come forward and help us keep our community safe.”
This isn’t the first time in recent months that a U.S. dentist has been accused of sexual abuse and reported by FrontPageDetectives.
In Pennsylvania, Michael Boyd Damgaard, 33, allegedly raped a 15-year-old girl several times and forced the victim to take a morning after pill after the assaults.
Damgaard and the victim met on a dating site, and he said that he likes younger girls. They met up several times in the woods and in a motel.
He was charged with numerous counts, including rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse under threat of force and statutory sexual assault, police said.
A dentist in Texas was also accused of raping a woman in his bathroom, according to police. The event started with the woman going out to party and ended with the alleged sexual assault.
Eberechukwu Olaoni Iheanacho remains free on bond after being charged with sexual assault.
