A Louisiana man is dead after trying to defend his mother, and now a suspect has been arrested and charged with killing him and their family dog, according to authorities.
Officers recently received a report about a woman at a local hospital suffering from severe injuries, according to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff's office said investigators determined the woman’s boyfriend, 47-year-old Derik Rayborn, allegedly killed her son and a dog at their home in Lake Charles.
When speaking with police, the woman said she escaped the residence and went to the hospital for medical care, authorities said.
At the victims' Lake Charles home, deputies located 26-year-old Eric Bosley and the dog dead from apparent gunshot wounds, officials said.
Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Stitch Guillory said that during a domestic dispute, the son "tried to defend his mom and that’s how he ended up as a victim," KPLC-TV reported.

Guillory said the woman’s injuries to her face are “beyond recognition” and it is “unbelievable that one human being could do this to another human being,” according to KPLC-TV.
Rayborn allegedly went to the hospital to try and locate his girlfriend, which is when police located and arrested him, officials said.
