A Louisiana man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison after stabbing his ex-girlfriend to death in her Texas apartment last year, according to authorities.

Prosecutors said that 48-year-old Wesley Guillard and 36-year-old Dannetrica Annette Green dated for about eight months and he lived with her and her two teenage daughters for about a month before they broke up because he allegedly was physically abusive, KIAH-TV reported.

On Feb. 20, 2022, Green had dinner with her female best friend and two daughters at the apartment before she headed out to a club.

Later in the night, Green and her best friend returned to the apartment in Humble. Her daughters were asleep at the time and police believe while Green was out, Guillard had snuck into the apartment and was waiting for her in her bedroom.

Green went into the room to change clothes and, police said, Guillard attacked her with a knife. Guillard, armed with the knife, chased the best friend and daughters out of the apartment and then fled the scene, authorities said.

Police responding to a 911 call regarding an assault in progress found Green unresponsive. An investigation was launched and Guillard was arrested.

On July 12, Guillard pleaded guilty to murder in exchange for 50 years in prison for killing Green, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced.

Guillard cannot appeal the conviction or the sentence, and he must serve at least half of the time before he is eligible for parole.

In a statement, Ogg said, “Domestic violence is about control and manipulation and when this man couldn’t control and manipulate the situation any longer, the violence escalated to murder. This was a premeditated and planned ambush, and he absolutely deserves to spend the rest of his life behind bars.”
