German authorities recently announced that a “number of items were seized” during the Portuguese reservoir search for missing British child Madeleine McCann.
As Front Page Detectives previously reported, German, Portuguese and British police participated in the three-day operation in the Algarve region of southern Portugal last week.
Officers were seen scouring for evidence in the area, which is about 30 miles from the Praia da Luz resort, where McCann was last seen in 2007. McCann, 3 years old at the time, was on vacation with her family.
In a statement from the Braunschweig District Attorney’s Office in Germany, law enforcement officials said the items seized “will be evaluated in the coming days and weeks,” according to ABC News. They added, "It is not yet possible to say whether any of the items are actually related to the Madeleine McCann case."
Over the years, a number of searches have been conducted for the missing toddler, but this latest search was done at the request of German authorities.
All of the material collected during the operation was handed over to German authorities for examination, who are now scouring the potential evidence, according to Portuguese police.

In 2020, German citizen Christian Brueckner, 46, was identified as a suspect in McCann’s disappearance, ABC News reported. Brueckner was in Portugal’s Algarve region in 2007, but he is currently in jail in the northern German city of Braunschweig for a different case.
The district attorney’s office added, "The investigations conducted here in Braunschweig against the 46-year-old suspect are expected to continue for some time."
