A Maine man was taken into custody for allegedly killing his girlfriend’s 3-year-old daughter on Christmas Day, according to authorities.
Around 7:40 a.m. on Dec. 25, 2022, police responded to a call about an unresponsive child in Edgecomb, according to Maine State Police.
The little girl, identified as Makinzlee Handrahan, died and the medical examiner declared her death a homicide. Officials did not reveal the cause of the child's death.
On Oct. 6, Tyler Witham-Jordan, 29, was arrested on a murder charge, authorities said.
Witham-Jordan was in a relationship with Makinzlee’s mother when she was killed.
Two days after her daughter’s death, Makinzlee’s mother got a protective order against Witham-Jordan that included her sons, WGME-TV reported.
In court documents, Makinzlee’s mother said Witham-Jordan was “verbally, mentally and physically abusive.” She added: “Tyler has held me down to not let me up after screaming at me and trying to bite me.”

Makinzlee’s mother reportedly ended the protective order in January.
