'God told me to do it: Man butchers grandfather with an ax, cops say

A man allegedly butchered his grandfather with an ax and then said, "God told me to do it," according to police.
Police say Jason Vicari, 21, killed Ronald Vicari, 81, with an axe in the elder’s home on Beachwood Avenue in Elmwood Park, New Jersey, according to northjersey.com.
Authorities were alerted to the scene when Jason Vicari’s father, also the son of Ronald, called 911 to inform authorities that his Jason Vicari barricaded himself inside the house, and that his father was unconscious with a head wound in the bathroom, northjersey.com reported.
According to the affidavit obtained by northjersey.com, Jason Vicari came outside when police arrived and was placed into custody without incident.
When a SWAT team member asked Jason if anyone was inside the house, he allegedly said, “Not anyone alive,” according to northjersey.com.

Minutes later, another SWAT team member said he heard Jason say “God told me to do it,” while in the back of an ambulance, northjersey.com reported.
Ronald Vicari was found dead inside the house next to the top of an ax, according to northjersey.com.
Jason Vicari was taken to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office in Paramus, northjersey.com reported.
"While in custody at the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office, Mr. Jason Vicari uttered that he believed his grandfather was a monster and God told him he would have to switch religions," police said in the affidavit obtained by northjersey.com.
Jason Vicari was charged with first-degree murder and two weapons possession offenses, according to northjersey.com.
