A man from Oxnard, California, is accused of stabbing and killing his wife in front of their two children, according to prosecutors.
Fernando Jarquin, 36, has been charged with the murder of his wife, Karla Cabrera, 27, the Ventura County District Attorney's Office announced this week.
Cabrera was living with Jarquin and their two young children at the time of the murder. Both kids were present at the time of the attack, according to KEYT.
On May 21, Cabrera was allegedly fatally stabbed multiple times after an argument between her and Jarquin, according to the district attorney's office. She died the same evening.
Jarquin fled the scene after the incident, cops say. He was quickly found hiding in a nearby alley suffering from self-inflicted stab wounds, according to KEYT.
Jarquin was transported to the hospital and guarded by police, then taken into custody.
Jarquin is currently in custody in the Ventura County Jail with no bail. He is due back in court on June 10.
