A New Jersey man was sentenced to over six years in prison after he admitted to paying $20,000 in bitcoin to have a 14-year-old child murdered, according to authorities.
As Front Page Detectives previously reported, 34-year-old John Michael Musbach pleaded guilty in February to an indictment charging him with one count of knowingly and intentionally using and causing another to use a facility of interstate and foreign commerce with the intent to commit murder.
Court documents state Musbach exchanged sexually explicit photos and videos with the teen in 2015, when the victim was 13 and living in New York. The victim’s family found out and reported it to police, who arrested Musbach on child pornography charges.
Musbach then paid approximately 40 bitcoin (or $20,000) to kill the victim so they couldn’t testify against him in court. As time went on and no murder was committed, Musbach contacted the murder-for-hire website again and the administrator asked for $5,000 more.

Musbach then asked for a refund, which is when the administrator said the website was a scam and threatened to contact police.
On June 27, U.S District Judge Joseph H. Rodriguez sentenced Musbach to 78 months in prison, according to the United States Attorney’s Office - District of New Jersey. In addition, Musbach was sentenced to three years of supervised release and fined $30,000.
