A man in Seattle whoo killed a 56-year-old woman and sexually violated her remains will spend decades in prison for his crimes.
In October 2022, Charles Becker, 33, was charged with first-degree murder, unlawful imprisonment and sexually violating the human remains of 56-year-old Mavis Kindness Nelson.
Last week, Becker pleaded guilty to all charges, officials said.
As part of his guilty plea, Becker admitted to smothering Nelson and stabbing her with a knife in a murder that was premeditated. When offered to speak in court during his sentencing, Becker said nothing, KIRO reported.
Nelson’s sister, Ernestine Morning Owl, told KIRO, “No spirit. No soul. Forever with no remorse. Not even a sorry. Not even just anything. And that just tells me that he is just a monster. A monster that I am happy he is being put away and deserves what he gets.”
Nelson was first reported missing in April 2022. Court documents state Becker killed the mother of three, stored her body in his home, dismembered it and then threw it away.
In June 2022, her remains were found on a trail near the University of Washington.
The following year, on June 30, 2023, a judge sentenced Becker to 34 years in prison.

“I believe that justice has been served finally for my sister," Morning Owl said to KIRO. "I am happy that with the turnout, he will serve the rest of his life in there where he should have.”
The station reported this isn’t the first killing Becker has been charged with. He was convicted of second-degree manslaughter for the death of his 4-month-old son in 2015.
The judge in that case wanted to sentence Becker to life in prison, but he stated his hands were tied by an agreed-upon sentence from both sides, according to KIRO.
