A man in North Carolina allegedly posed as a law enforcement officer and went to a woman’s home and told her her husband was killed in a shooting at the “Madison Walmart,” according to authorities.
Around 11:30 a.m. on April 4, a woman called deputies to report the incident, according to the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies arrived at the woman’s home and she said a man, dressed in uniform-style attire resembling a police officer, came to her door and claimed her husband had been killed in a shooting.
Officials said the man called her husband specifically by name and was driving a silver Dodge Charger marked like a highway patrol vehicle.
The woman was upset by the news, so she called a friend. She then told the man that her friend was on her way over, which is when the man quickly left the area, authorities said.
The woman then contacted her husband, learning that he was alive and well and that the whole story had been fabricated, officials said.
