An Iowa man was shot in the face during a dispute over his son’s “stinky feet,” authorities said.
On Aug. 11, officers responded to a call about a shooting at a home in Burlington, according to the Burlington Police Department.
On scene, officers made contact with the suspect, 48-year-old David Carpenter, and went into the home, where they found the victim with a gunshot wound to the face, law enforcement officials said.
The victim was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening injury.
When speaking with police, the victim said he and his son got into a disagreement about “David’s stinky feet,” according to an arrest affidavit obtained by KWQC-TV.
Carpenter told police that he and his father were in the living room and his father commented that his feet smelled bad, the affidavit states.
The comment then led to an argument about family concerns, and Carpenter allegedly threatened to shoot his father, according to police.

Carpenter went to his room, where he retrieved a gun and aimed it at his dad, police said.
According to the affidavit, he then claimed he “accidentally” pulled the trigger.
Carpenter was arrested and charged with attempted murder and child endangerment.
The affidavit notes there were children under the age of 14 at home when the shooting occurred.
