Massive Manhunt Nabs West Virginia Suspect Who Killed State Trooper, Officials Say
A suspect was arrested in connection with the murder of a West Virginia state trooper, authorities announced.
Timothy Kennedy, 29, was arraigned via video in Mingo County Magistrate Court. Kennedy on a first-degree murder charge on June 3, WCHS-TV reported.
The previous day, Kennedy is accused of fatally shooting Sgt. Cory Maynard, who was responding to a report of a shooting at a home. At the residence, police said the officers were shot at, and Maynard was struck by a bullet.
Kennedy was located in a stolen vehicle and apprehended following a massive manhunt, officials said.
Benjamin Adam Baldwin, 39,was found shot at the home and is currently in stable condition.
Gov. Jim Justice said he was“absolutely heartbroken” about the slain state trooper’s death. He added, “The brave men and women of law enforcement, and all first responders who put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe, are an inspiration to us all.”
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
Kennedy faces up to life in prison if he is found guilty of the murder charge against him, according to WCHS-TV.
