A funeral home owner has been arrested for allegedly shooting and killing a Maryland man and wounding a woman at a 10-year-old girl’s funeral, according to authorities.
Around 1:20 p.m. on June 6, officers were dispatched to a cemetery in Hillcrest Heights regarding a shooting, the Prince George’s County Police Department announced.
Once at the scene, police found 30-year-old Ronald Banks injured from an apparent gunshot wound and another victim with a graze wound. Banks was transported to a nearby hospital, where he died soon after arriving.
Investigators determined 48-year-old Wilson Chavis owns and operates the funeral home, officials said.
Chavis allegedly approached the victims as the burial service was “preparing to get underway” and shot them. Banks was serving as a pallbearer at the funeral, authorities said.
Police said both the victims “are affiliated with a second funeral service company with which Chavis has a long-standing business dispute.” Other attendees of the funeral reportedly “became upset with Chavis and confronted him over his behavior.”
After the shooting, Chavis fled the scene in his vehicle. However, an officer with the Morningside Police Department saw him, conducted a traffic stop and arrested him, officials said.
The funeral was for Arianna Davis, who was shot on May 14 and died three days later, the Metropolitan Police Department said. Police are offering up to $45,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect or suspects.

Antionette Belk, Davis’ mother, told WRC-TV, "I’m so traumatized that this happened at my daughter’s burial site. I didn’t even get to lay her down, even to put her in the ground, and another incident happened. This is so traumatizing to me, my children, my whole family. It’s trauma after trauma."
Chavis was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder and other related charges, officials said.
