An 18-year-old died from neglect and pneumonia and now her mom is accused of murder, police said.
On Sept. 30, the Charles County Sheriff’s Office in Maryland responded to a home for a person not breathing. When deputies arrived, they found Elizabeth Marie Evening Star Stone, 18, dead in her bed.
Her mom, Virginia Stone, said her daughter suffered from numerous medical conditions.
Investigators learned the teen had a medical condition that was diagnosed years ago but could be treatable with the proper care, according to the sheriff’s office.
However, the teen’s death was ruled a homicide due to neglect, pneumonia and malnutrition.
Police said Virginia Stone failed to provide adequate care leading to the death. The mom now faces charges of second-degree murder and physical injury to a vulnerable adult. She is being held without bond in a Maryland jail.
