Western Massachusetts duo accused of killing 22-year-old, seriously injuring another man man in May shooting

A Massachusetts man and woman were charged in connection to a shooting in May that left one dead and another person seriously hurt, police said.
This week, Springfield police made two arrests in the murder of 22-year-old Kamari·Khalil Lyles.
Springfield police responded to the 0-100 block of Leete Street for a ShotSpotter activation around 11:50 p.m. on May 1 and found two men suffering from gunshot wounds.
Both victims were transported to Baystate Medical Center. One victim survived, but the second victim, Lyles, died from his injuries on May 7, according to a statement from The Springfield Police.
Five months to the day, officials applied for arrest warrants for the 23-year-old Joel Rodriguez and 20-year-old Brialee Garcia.
Investigators have not said what led to the shooting or high the suspects were tied to the case.
Officials said members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit, United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force, Massachusetts State Police VFAS, Hampden County Sheriff s Department and Chicopee Police officers arrested Rodriguez and Garcia at an apartment on the 0-100 block of West Street in Chicopee, Massachusetts, around 9:45 a.m. Oct. 8.
Rodriguez and Garcia were charged with murder, possession of a large capacity firearm, assault to murder, two counts of malicious damage to a motor vehicle, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, carrying a firearm without a license and carrying a loaded firearm without a license.
Police say they continue to investigate the shooting.
