Suspect in deadly Texas nightclub shooting arrested 2,000 miles away, police say

A man wanted in connection to a fatal shooting at a Texas nightclub was arrested nearly 2,000 miles away, police said.

Massachusetts State Police said they arrested Denis Alexis Ocampo-Maldonado, 23, on Sept. 16. He was wanted on a murder charge out of Austin, Texas.

On Sept. 12, 23-year-old Jocson Antonio Zelaya Blaco was shot and killed in the El Nocturno Night Club parking lot, according to police. Investigators identified Ocampo-Maldonado as the shooter and issued warrants for his arrest the next day.

Investigators learned Ocampo-Maldonado had ties to New Bedford, Massachusetts and might be trying to flee the U.S. Police identified a particular building as an “address of interest” and set up surveillance.

There, they saw a vehicle with a Texas license plate.

Early in the morning, Massachusetts State Police and others raided the building and went to the door, according to authorities.

They went inside the building as some occupants tried to provoke them with threats and insults, according to Massachusetts State Police. Officials searched the property and found Ocampo-Maldonado in a second-floor apartment.

Ocampo-Maldonado was booked into a Massachusetts jail on the first-degree murder charge out of Texas.
