A father in Michigan has been arrested after he allegedly shot and wounded his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend after dropping off gifts, law enforcement officials said.
On the morning of Dec. 25, Deandre Patrick Lawrence, 23, went to his ex-girlfriend’s house in Mount Clemens to deliver presents to his three children, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office.
While at the residence, Lawrence allegedly got into a physical altercation with his ex-girlfriend’s live-in boyfriend, officials said.
According to police, with Lawrence in pursuit, the new boyfriend fled the house and tripped and fell.
Lawrence allegedly shot the boyfriend twice in the back while the victim was lying on the ground, authorities said.
The victim survived but was critically injured during the incident, WDIV reported.
Lawrence was arrested and charged with assault with intent to murder, and felony firearm, officials said.
He was booked on a $1 million bond. If released, Lawrence is to have no contact with the victim or witnesses.
