A Michigan mother is accused of fatally shooting her 5-year-old daughter last week.
Suzanne Jacobson, 33, was charged with open murder in a Benzie County. A man told police his girlfriend shot her 5-year-old daughter in their home.
The man claimed he and Jacobson struggled for the gun following the shooting, and Jacobson fled into the woods once he wretlested the weapon away from her.
“Members of the Benzie County Sheriff’s Office and the Michigan State Police then began searching for the suspect and located her approximately 20 minutes after arriving on scene at a nearby business sitting in an employee’s vehicle,” Benzie County Sheriff Kyle Rosa told the Traverse City Record-Eagle.
“She was taken into custody without incident.”
Police have not said what allegedly caused Jacobson to shoot the child.
Officials said three other children between 13 and 7 years old were in the Inland Township, Michigan, home at the time of the shooting. They escaped without injury, according to UpNorthLive.com.
Jacobson was ordered held in the Benzie County Jail without bail.
