A convicted felon in Alabama has been arrested after he allegedly kidnapped and killed his girlfriend and then placed her into a car trunk and drove off in the vehicle, according to authorities.
According to the Birmingham Police Department, 40-year-old Nakita Davidson was last seen on April 11 around 1:45 a.m. in Birmingham.
Around 2:11 a.m. on April 11, officers responded to the scene of a two-vehicle accident. Officers said they observed one vehicle at the location and found “evidence of a violent crime,” according to court documents obtained by AL.com.
Investigators claim 37-year-old Cedric Robertson intentionally ran into his girlfriend’s vehicle and then allegedly shot her before placing her into the trunk of her car and driving off with her, authorities said.
Officials said they recovered Robertson’s vehicle and cell phone at the scene of the crash.
Court documents say a witness saw Robertson shoot a woman before putting her into the trunk of a 2008 burgundy Saturn Outlook and fleeing in the vehicle.
Around 3:15 p.m. on April 12, police said they found Davidson’s remains in her own vehicle in a wooded location in Birmingham.
Around 6:40 p.m., officials located Robertson in Birmingham and took him into custody. At that time, police said Robertson was moving from one abandoned house to another.
Robertson was charged with capital murder during kidnapping, kidnapping and failure to appear, officials said.
He was booked into the Jefferson County Jail and was being held without bond.

Davidson’s brother talked to AL.com, saying the victim and Roberton had been dating for less than a year. He said, "Her plan was to get away from him. That’s what she was trying to do that night."
Sgt. LaQuitta Wade told the news outlet, "It’s sad. It’s a sad day. And it bothers us deeply because Nakita had four children who will be without a mother."
