Teen Pinned Between Cars In Wreck On Prom Night, Alleged Drunk Driver Arrested
A teen was critically injured in a crash on prom night and now the alleged drunk behind the wheel of another car has been arrested, police said.
Early on April 16, police in Pearl, Mississippi, responded to a hotel for reports of a multi-vehicle crash with injuries. Officers arrived and found four damaged vehicles. A 17-year-old woman was also lying on the ground between two of the vehicles.
Police said the teen was critically injured.
The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition and later went into emergency surgery, according to Pearl police. The crash happened on prom night for Pearl High School.
Witnesses stated that fellow student, Jerry Lee “JBird” Johnson, was speeding in the parking lot and lost control of the vehicle, according to Pearl police. His car collided with another vehicle, which caused a chain reaction pinning the victim between two cars.
The victim is now in stable condition but suffered severe injuries, police said.
Johnson, 19, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, felony malicious mischief and public drunk, police said.
