A 19-year-old man broke a bus window while attempting to assault a high school bus driver in Missouri, police said.
Around 7:30 a.m. on Feb. 1, police said officers responded to a property damage call in the parking lot at Webb City High School in Webb City, Missouri.
At the scene, officials said 19-year-old William C. Thompson broke a window on the bus while trying to assault the bus driver.
The bus was near full with students ranging from kindergarten to high school age. There were no reported injuries, police said.
According to authorities, Thompson was angry at the bus driver, as he claims the bus almost hit his car in the entrance to the parking lot.
Police talked to witnesses, who told police they saw Thompson get out of his vehicle and begin exchanging words with the bus driver, Yahoo! News reported.
Webb City Police Department Chief Don Melton told Yahoo! News, “He was frustrated because he thought the bus driver nearly struck his vehicle. He tried to confront the bus driver through the driver’s window, and the bus driver shut the window. The suspect then struck the window (several times), breaking it.”
Officials said Thompson is not a parent or a student at Webb City High School.
In a statement on Facebook from the Webb City School District, officials said, “Our bus driver handled the situation very well, kept students safe, and is in good spirits. We are currently making every attempt to contact parents to update them on the situation.”
Thompson was arrested and charged with property damage and assault, authorities said.
He was taken to the Webb City Police Department and bond was set at $1,000 bond, Yahoo! News reported.
