A Missouri woman’s family asked cops to do a welfare check on their daughter and now police say the woman was found dead.
A suspect was arrested after a standoff with police, authorities said.
Around 3 p.m. on Jan. 9, a concerned family member called police stating they had not seen their daughter since Jan. 7, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office said.
A search warrant was issued for a home near Pleasant Hill, Missouri. There, police said they found the body of 39-year-old Sara B. Maloney inside the house.
A suspect was identified, and around 11:45 p.m. on Jan. 9, officials said they found the suspect inside a house in Raymore.
However, the suspect refused to come out of the house, so a short standoff took place, police said. The Cass County K9 Team found the suspect, 31-year-old Levi G. Mitchell, inside the home and he was taken into custody.
Mitchell was charged with second-degree murder and armed civil action, authorities said. He was ordered to be held without bond.
