Mom, 6-year-old daughter found murdered in Maryland home. Police say they have arrested their killer.
A 37-year-old man killed a woman and a child in Maryland and now faces several charges, police said.
On Nov. 24, Martina Lynn Patterson, 37, and Lyneasha Justice Greenwell, 6, were both found dead in a Lexington Park, Maryland, home, according to the St. Mary County Sheriff’s Office.
Police identified Wayne Carroll Key Jr. as a suspect and arrested him last week.
Detectives continue to investigate and have not released a motive for the killing.
But Patterson’s friends told WUSA the family had previously reported Key to authorities for alleged domestic violence incidents.
Police charged Key with two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault and two counts of second-degree assault. He also had previous warrants for burglary, assault, harassment and failure to provide child support.
The victim’s friends created a GoFundMe page to help cover the funeral costs. It has raised slightly more than $1,000.
“Lyneasha was just 6 years old turning 7 next month, when she was taken from us,” the page read. “Martina had just celebrated her 37th birthday.”
