Mother Charged With Murder After Accusing Her 2-Year-Old of Being Responsible for Getting Her Other Baby Trapped in Couch: Police

A Virginia mother is facing murder charges after she tried to blame her 2-year-old for her 1-year-old child getting fatally “stuck” in a couch, according to authorities.
In January 2020, Brandy Lynn Parker told police that her 2-year-old child “fell asleep on top of the infant on the couch” and her 1-year-old wasn’t breathing, WSET reported.
Police tried to revive the baby, but were unsuccessful, authorities said. The baby was rushed to the hospital, where they were declared dead.
Court records state police smelled alcohol coming from Parker, who was the sole caretaker of her two young children when the baby passed away, according to WSET.
Parker allegedly admitted to drinking alcohol the night before, officials said. She was given a breath test, which showed she had a blood alcohol level of 0.14.
On June 7, Parker was arrested and charged with felony murder and felony child abuse and neglect. Authorities said after a “lengthy investigation, detectives determined that reckless disregard of human life contributed to the child’s death.”
