Ohio Mother Killed While Trying to Stop Carjackers from Fleeing with Her Sleeping 6-Year-Old Son in Vehicle
An Ohio mother was killed after she tried to thwart three car thieves who drove off with her sleeping 6-year-old still inside, and police are asking for the public's help locating the carjacking suspects.
Columbus Division of Police officers responded to the White Oak Park Condominiums north of Canal Winchester in southeast Columbus at around 1:30 a.m. on July 11, and found an injured woman near the intersection of Blue Knoll Drive and Annual Drive.
She was transported to Mount Carmel East Hospital and pronounced dead later that morning.
Investigators learned the woman, identified as 29-year-old Alexa Stakely, had been picking up her 6-year-old son from his babysitter's apartment.
She loaded the sleeping child into her Honda CR-V, but she returned to the apartment to retrieve something from the sitter.
That's when the suspects jumped into her vehicle, which was running, and began to drive away.
