Alleged Killer Who Posted Photos Of Victim’s Stolen Backpack On Instagram Captured In Texas, Police Say
The third of three suspects accused of killing a man outside a hookah bar in Texas in May has been taken into custody, authorities announced.
Police in Austin arrested Robert Joseph Ortiz, 19, and charged him with capital murder in connection with the death of 20-year-old Takhai Charles Michael, KABB reported.
He was booked into the Bexar County jail on $300,000 bond.
According to an affidavit obtained by the station, Ortiz allegedly posted photos on social media of the victim’s backpack he and another suspect allegedly stole after the killing as well as what a witness identified as some of its contents, including a handgun and a cell phone.
The arrest report states that the day of the shooting, Michael, a woman and several friends were in a vehicle outside Blow Hookah Lounge when one of the friends began arguing with another man.
The man, who was outside the vehicle, pulled the woman from the car and began hitting her with a gun, police said in the report.
Five suspects then surrounded the vehicle and stole a gold necklace from Michael as well as the woman’s purse.
When Michael asked for the woman’s belongings back and began to chase after the alleged robber, 22-year-old Nathan Cruz Sanchez, one of the other suspects shot at Michael multiple times.
Surveillance video of the incident allegedly shows Sanchez also fired an AR-15 rifle at Michael, states the affidavit states, which notes two of the suspects allegedly then stole Michael’s backpack
In addition to Ortiz’s recent arrest, authorities previously arrested Aaron Trevino, 20 , as well as Sanchez and charged them each with capital murder.
