Suspect allegedly murdered mother for getting rid of his dog, not giving him ride to girlfriend’s house: Sheriff
An Alabama man is accused of killing his mother after the two got into an argument about her giving away his dog and refusing to give him a ride to his girlfriend’s house, authorities said.
Around 9:15 p.m. on March 11, deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office conducted a wellbeing check at the home of Deborah Landers Bryant in Chalybeate Springs and found the 67-year-old woman dead, Al.com reported.
Investigators determined Bryant had died days earlier, and they identified the victim’s 37-year-old son, Nicholas Drue Scoggin, as a suspect in her murder.
According to the sheriff’s office, Scoggin killed his mother after the fight and then stole her purse and vehicle.
Scoggin, who lived with his mother, was taken into custody at a friend’s Hillsboro home and booked into the Lawrence County jail on multiple charges, including murder, kidnapping, and robbery.
Autopsy results to determine Bryant’s cause of death are pending.
