North Carolina Man Accused of Murdering Woman After Online Marketplace Meeting

Law enforcement officials in North Carolina say a man was arrested and charged with the murder of a 67-year-old woman who he arranged to buy an item from her through an online marketplace.
On the morning of May 24, officers were called for a traffic accident in Greensboro. At the scene, they found Kathryn Holmes in the car suffering a gunshot wound, according to police records obtained by WXII.
Police said the crash occurred as a result of the shooting.
Holmes’ daughter told the Greensboro News & Record that her mother was shot in the neck and was unable to move her foot from the accelerator.
The victim was transported to the hospital, but she died two days later, officials said.
On June 5, Troy Marquise Gillard was arrested in Winston-Salem and charged with first degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, discharging a firearm into occupied property, possession of a firearm by a felon, and fugitive from justice, according to the Greensboro Police Department.

Court documents claim Gillard robbed Holmes of her wedding band and engagement ring.
Gillard was being held without bond. His next court date is scheduled for Oct. 1.
