Texas Man Headed To Prison After He Got Into Fight At Hot Dog Bar
Sentencing will begin April 10 for a man convicted of murdering another man outside a hot dog bar in El Paso, Texas.
Elijah Covington, 23, was found guilty of murder April 5. An earlier charge of deadly conduct by discharging a firearm had been dropped.
The jury concluded Covington was part of an argument involving two groups of people at the establishment Sept. 1, 2019. Bouncers took the groups outside, but then Covington reportedly got into a fight with Jamaal Jones-Aguilar.
The El Paso Times quoted a court affidavit, which said Covington went to a Jeep, pulled out a rifle and fired several shots.
Jones-Aguilar was shot and killed, while a second man escaped with a slight wound to the face.
The jury could sentence Covington to 99 years in prison.
