A New Jersey Man Met Up With A Woman He Contacted Online To Buy A Used Cell Phone. Then He Fatally Shot Her In The Head.
A meeting to purchase a used phone in southern New Jersey ended with a woman shot in the head in her car. Now a man has been convicted of murdering her.
A jury convicted Marvin Coleman, Jr., 24, Wednesday of five counts, including first-degree felony murder and first-degree murder, a statement from the Burlington County Prosecutor said.
The killing occurred on a residential street in Willingboro in early March 2019. WPG Radio reports authorities found Maribely Lopez, 21, in the driver's seat with the engine running. But she had been shot.
Investigators learned Coleman met Lopez through the OfferUp shopping app and expressed interest in buying an old cell phone. They agreed to meet on a street near Coleman's home around 11 p.m.
When Lopez rolled her car window down slightly, authorities say Coleman shot her in the head.
In addition to the two murder counts, Coleman was convicted of first-degree robbery, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.
Coleman's sentencing is scheduled for Friday, June 9.
